Albany CVB Winner of GPP Photography Contest

07Jan2011

Albany, Georgia – January 7, 2011 –The Albany Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) was awarded a 30-second advertising spot for winning the Georgia Production Partnership (GPP) Cup-O-Pansies Photo Location contest. Participants in the contest were instructed to take a picture of a community locale that would make a great location for a movie, including in the photo pansies growing in a cup sporting the ‘GPP’ label. After uploading pictures to Facebook, a winner was chosen through a voting process.

“I was up against very stiff competition and was so glad Albany prevailed,” says Liz Gray, manager of sales and PR for the Albany CVB, who took the winning photograph of Oak Trees on Rosedale Avenue.  Gray’s photograph was selected from among many other entries, including ones submitted by Tybee Island, Columbia County, Clayton County, Oconee County and others.

The award follows the CVB’s designation by the Georgia Film, Music & Digital Entertainment Office, a division of the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD), as a Camera Ready Community, a program designed to bolster Georgia’s growing film and television industry. Lisa Riddle, director of the Albany CVB, and her staff worked diligently to gather the necessary components which allowed Dougherty County to be designated as one of the first "Camera Ready" communities in the state. The awarded advertising will be used to help promote tourism to the area.
