Posted on 5/6/2020 by Rashelle Minix
Posted within: Family FriendlyRestaurants and shops are beginning to open their doors! Welcome back to entering a restaurant, being served a refreshing drink, and perusing a menu. I personally am excited to shop for clothes in person. There really is nothing better than having someone help you pick out the perfect outfit, especially with summer quickly approaching! Light can be seen at the end of the tunnel, and we are ectatic to provide a list of places who are now open for business. These local gems are doing some serious sanitizing, keeping tables six feet apart, and doing their part to continue flattening the curve, while moving towards recovery. Make sure to #thinklocal and support these businesses, whether you choose to go in or continue curbside pickup. This blog is constantly being updated to provide accurate information. Go

Posted within: Outdoor‚ TravelThank you for your interest in Albany, Georgia. During this unprecedented event, it is our mission to keep our residents and visitors informed and focus on the health and safety of all those who live or travel to Albany/Dougherty County. While we understand that this may impact your travel plans, we want to keep you updated with the steps we are taking to keep your health and safety top of mind and remind people to travel responsibly. For the most up-to-date COVID-19 information, please refer to the www.albanyga.gov website. We have also closed our Visitor Centers out of an abundance of caution for the health and safety of our wonderful staff. We encourage people to utilize our website. Our hotels, restaurants, and businesses are open for business. They have increased disinfecting and social distancing measures to help ensure the safety of our visitors and employees. These enhanced measures are some of the most stringent in the industry, and we are working with all businesses, attractions, restaurants. and others county-wide to make sure they are implementing current sanitation and best health practices. Pack a picnic lunch or call in a to-go order at one of our small, locally-owned restaurants who will have it ready for you to pick up. Then hit the trail and enjoy the calm disconnectedness that only nature can offer. Consider purchasing a gift card for a future trip to support our local businesses now when they need it the most. Enjoy a walk in the neighborhood, down the Flint River Trail, or playing in your backyard, the great outdoors is always open. Uncrowded and unspoiled, open-air walks, bike rides and other outings in nature provide the therapeutic benefits of being outside while practicing social distancing. To protect yourself and others, please take the following precautions as recommended by the CDC: Wash your hands frequently with warm water and soap for at least 20 seconds; Avoid sharing food and drinks; Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth; Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue or into your elbow; and Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces. During this time, our hearts and thoughts are with those who have been affected by this. We send our deep appreciation to those in our community, the healthcare industry and first responders who are working on the front lines to mitigate the spread and impact of this virus. Our community and its people are resilient; we will persevere through this and are optimistic about the future. We thank you for considering Albany/Dougherty County and we look forward to welcoming you back. Sincerely, Rashelle Beasley Executive Director Albany Convention and Visitors Bureau Go
