Posted within: Family Friendly‚ TravelHave you ever been to an aquarium, perhaps the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta? Or maybe even Orlando’s Sea World? Albany has its own version of an aqua habitat and museum, but it’s way more special than an aquarium – it’s a RiverQuarium. The Flint RiverQuarium is a one-of-a-kind adventure featuring a unique 175,000 gallon blue hole spring, one of the few open-air aquariums in the world. Following the Flint’s amazing 350-mile journey to the Gulf of Mexico, the RiverQuarium offers a look at Southwest Georgia’s mysterious underwater world with more than 120 species of fish, alligators, turtles and other aquatic animals. The Cypress Pond Aviary is home to more than 30 kinds of birds indigenous to the Flint River watershed. Next door is the Adventure Center, which houses changing exhibitions, and the Imagination Theater, the area’s only large-screen format theater. Go

Albany, Georgia Rocks a Long Musical History
Posted on 4/17/2015 by Rashelle
Posted within: Arts‚ History‚ TravelOne thing is for sure – Albany, Georgia really knows how to rock! When you come to Albany, you’ll almost certainly stop and see our rotating monument to Ray Charles on Front Street. Plenty of people know that the soul pioneer was an Albany native, born here in 1930, and lots of people also know how proud we are of our most recent hometown musical celebrities, Luke Bryan and Phillip Phillips. Country star Luke Bryan was born in the suburb of Leesburg, and got his start as a songwriter for the likes of Billy Currington and Travis Tritt before recording his own albums and shooting to stardom. And 11th American Idol Phillip Phillips was born right here in Albany and grew up in Bryan’s hometown of Leesburg, winning the 2010 “Albany Star” competition before going on to be the American Idol champion with the best-selling ‘coronation single’ to date. But, it taught me to appreciate the local produce wherever I was living. Go
