Albany Welcome Center Hosts Book Signing with Beloved Local Authors

This festive gathering invites residents and visitors alike to meet the authors, enjoy live storytelling, and purchase signed copies of their works, which highlight Albany’s unique cultural and historical legacy.

The Albany Welcome Center, operated by Visit Albany GA, is proud to host a special book signing event on Monday, November 13th from 5:00–7:00 PM featuring two of Albany’s most celebrated authors: O. Vic Miller and Mary Sterner Lawson. The event will take place at the historic Bridge House, home to the Albany Visitors Center, located at 112 North Front Street.

O. Vic Miller

O. Vic Miller, a retired English professor and longtime Albany resident, is known for his vivid outdoor tales and Southern storytelling. His latest collection, Growing Up Southern: Stories from the Deep South, draws from his boyhood along the Flint River and his adventurous life as both educator and outdoorsman. His writing has appeared in Gray’s Sporting Journal and other regional publications, earning him a devoted following across Georgia.

Mary Sterner Lawson

Mary Sterner Lawson, author of June Bug’s Grocery and the Cornfield Jook: A South Albany Oral History, has spent decades preserving the voices and memories of Albany’s African American community. Her work began with a photograph of a vibrant street corner in South Albany and evolved into a powerful oral history that captures the soul of the neighborhood and its people.

As a Destination Marketing Organization (DMO), Visit Albany GA is committed to elevating local voices and experiences that define the city’s identity. Hosting events like this book signing not only supports local creatives but also deepens the connection between visitors and the community.

The event is free and open to the public. Guests are encouraged to shop at the Welcome Center’s locally sourced gift shop for holiday gifts, including apparel, mugs, candles, and children’s books that reflect Albany’s spirit.
