Albany, Georgia Rocks a Long Musical History
Posted on 4/17/2015 by Rashelle
Posted within: Arts‚ History‚ TravelOne thing is for sure – Albany, Georgia really knows how to rock! When you come to Albany, you’ll almost certainly stop and see our rotating monument to Ray Charles on Front Street. Plenty of people know that the soul pioneer was an Albany native, born here in 1930, and lots of people also know how proud we are of our most recent hometown musical celebrities, Luke Bryan and Phillip Phillips. Country star Luke Bryan was born in the suburb of Leesburg, and got his start as a songwriter for the likes of Billy Currington and Travis Tritt before recording his own albums and shooting to stardom. And 11th American Idol Phillip Phillips was born right here in Albany and grew up in Bryan’s hometown of Leesburg, winning the 2010 “Albany Star” competition before going on to be the American Idol champion with the best-selling ‘coronation single’ to date. Unveil your inner artiste with artistic explorations in Albany, Georgia
Posted on 11/16/2014 by Rashelle
Posted within: Arts‚ Family Friendly‚ TravelLocated on the Flint River in southwest Georgia, an ideal stopping point, about an hour off I-10 and only 30 minutes from I-75, when en route to/from Savannah and Charleston or even Florida, Albany is a hub for arts and culture. Take, for instance, the city's newest addition, the Art Park, an open air community center in the heart of urban, downtown Albany, highlighting local artists and open to the public. The urban Art Park is also an event facility open to performances and gatherings. Visit Albany during the annual Color Run 5K and experience the Art Park first-hand during the after party. Or attend the Pink Parade Fashion Show, an annual fundraiser for Breast Cancer Awareness, and savor the sight of the colorful Art Park which serves as a unique backdrop for elements of the Show, including dance videos, photo shoots and media campaigns.
