KoKo Beans Embroidery

Guided by the powerful example set by her mother and grandmother, Krystal Santos learned early the enduring values of faith, service and community. With over 20 years dedicated to outreach, advocacy and leadership, her work spans Human Resources, advocating for constituents in Georgia’s 2nd Congressional District under the leadership of Congressman Sanford Bishop, Jr., supporting students at Albany State University and empowering young adults through Turner Job Corps. Krystal has also faithfully volunteered in a variety of capacities for many years and served on several community boards, including the Boys & Girls Club of Albany, helping strengthen and uplift underserved populations. Now a wife and mother of two, she pivoted in faith to open her own embroidery business, Koko Beans Etcetera—creating much-needed flexibility for her family while still being able to serve her community through creativity, connection and purpose. Through her work, Krystal continues to spread smiles, love and style, proving that purpose can evolve without losing its heart.
“We as women often feel we should be ALL things to ALL people at ALL times. God has shown me that every season has purpose. When I trust Him, pivoting becomes obedience, not fear; allowing Him to lead me where I'm needed most in each season.” — Krystal Santos

The heart and soul of Southern Elegance Catering is Salinda Barber, who has over 15+ years of experience in the food service industry. She has owned and operated the catering business for just over 4 years now, crafting delicious menus for a variety of functions, including weddings and corporate events. Another aspect of the catering business is Honey & Thyme, located in Leesburg, which is the storefront version of the business, so you can enjoy grab & go meals, sourdough, and more without having to host a special event!
The Cookie Shoppe

This quaint bakery and restaurant has been a staple in the Albany community since 1985 and is owned by Mona and Munir Qaqish. Together, they operate the store and make everything found on the menu from scratch, including biscuits, cookies, soup, tea, egg salad, and more! The Cookie Shoppe is open for breakfast and lunch, with a selection of baked goods as well to choose from. It’s the type of establishment that has a welcoming atmosphere, perfect for catching up with an old friend over lunch or enjoying a delicious meal alone.
These are just a few of the businesses within our community that are led by women! During Women’s History Month, we encourage you to help support these businesses and dive deeper into the stories of these incredible women.
