Georgia Episodes of International Music and Travel Series Set to Premiere on GPB in June

ATLANTA, June 8, 2015 - Music Voyager, an international music and lifestyle travel series, will focus its spotlight on the creative communities of five Georgia cities in three episodes premiering on GPB this month. By engaging local artists, personalities and tastemakers as his guides, Music Voyager host Tacuma Bradley immerses himself in the music, food and culture of Atlanta, Athens, Macon, Albany and Columbus.
“With its focus on telling authentic stories through the eyes of locals, Music Voyager has succeeded in capturing a lively and engaging portrayal of Georgia cities that will resonate with audiences around the world,” said Lisa Love, director of music marketing for the Georgia Department of Economic Development. “We hope that travelers around the world will want to explore Georgia to learn more about our culture and arts scene as well as our fantastic destinations across the state.”
The GPB broadcast schedule is:
June 12 7:30 p.m. Atlanta
June 19 7:30 p.m. Athens and Macon
June 26 7:30 p.m. Albany and Columbus
Atlanta’s episode features interviews and performances from local artists including soul and R&B group Ruby Velle and the Soulphonics, rapper and producer Killer Mike and singer, songwriter and country music star Kristian Bush along with his brother and bandmate Brandon Bush. The episode visits local favorite watering holes including Porter Beer Bar, Lotta Frutta, Daddy D’z BBQ Joynt, Orpheus Brewery, Rosebud, Sound Table and Gladys Knight’s Chicken and Waffles. The different personalities of Atlanta’s intown neighborhoods including Little Five Points, Grant Park, West Midtown and the Old Fourth Ward.
The second episode begins in Macon with visits to H&H Soul Food, the Otis Redding Foundation, the Allman Brothers Band Museum at the Big House, Mercer University’s Robert McDuffie Center for Strings, Taste and See Coffee Shop and Cox Capitol Theatre. Local performers featured include Otis Redding III and John Ford, singer/songwriter Louise Warren, Back City Woods and Widow Pills. In Athens, Bradley takes in the 40 Watt, Georgia Theatre, The National, World Famous, the Classic Center, the University of Georgia’s Special Collections Libraries and Bloodroot Blades. Athens performances feature Art Rosenbaum, The Whigs and Kishi Bashi.
The final episode travels to South Georgia where Albany musician and entrepreneur Bo Henry takes Bradley quail hunting followed by an emotional visit to the Albany Civil Rights Institute to meet Rutha Mae Harris and the Freedom Singers. Carter’s Grill and Restaurant, Henry Campbell’s Steakhouse, Harvest Moon, Ray Charles Plaza and a Sunday morning service at Mt. Zion Baptist Church are all on the Albany itinerary. As the episode moves 90 miles up the road to Columbus, Music Voyager features performances by locals including blues guitarist Neal Lucas, singer/songwriter Garrett Lee and classical guitarist Robert Sharpe. Bradley visits the Ma Rainey House & Blues Museum, the Iron Bank Coffee Company, Chester’s Barbeque, The Loft’s music venue, restaurant and recording studio, the studio of artist Sally Bradley, Belloo’s Martini and Cigar Bar, and Whitewater Express, where guide Jeremy Rose takes Bradley and the crew on an unforgettable trip down the Chattahoochee River.
Music Voyager hosts have traveled across the globe to hear the music, taste the food and visit the off-the-beaten path attractions and events that only the locals know.
