Jimmie's Hot Dogs
Overview
Jimmie's Hot Dogs is a historic site in Downtown Albany and has been since 1947. Throughout its history, Jimmie’s, still white-owned and operated, has sold and served hot dogs to all patrons, regardless of race, and has been a mainstay in the community. One reason Jimmie’s was able to serve all races together was because it truly is a hot dog STAND with no table seating, so they did not break the Jim Crow laws that prohibited blacks and whites from mingling. A lesson on Albany's rich history is not complete without a classic Jimmie's hot dog.
