Coffee & Canvases: Alma Thomas
Overview
Celebrate the legacy of pioneering Black artist and educator Alma Thomas, a Columbus, Ga., native, at a special Saturday morning painting event at the Albany Museum of Art. Thomas’ work "The Eclipse" will be inspiration as we enjoy coffee and donuts and create our interpretations of her painting while learning art history.
Participants will get step-by-step painting instructions, so no painting experience is required. All art materials, including the canvas, are included in registration. The instructor will be LaKeisha Smith Martin.
Thomas moved from Georgia to Washington, D.C., where she became a nationally renowned artist. "The Eclipse" is in the collection of the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Making the painting workshop even more special is it is being held one day before what would have been the artist’s 133rd birthday.
