Race Rules
- Participants should enter only if they are confident that they can complete the course in the allotted seven hours. Traffic control, road marshals and volunteers will vacate the course seven hours after the start. Anyone who continues to run on the course after the cut-off time will be doing so at his or her own risk.
- Only runners with valid race entry may participate. No one under the age of 16 on race day will be allowed to participate in the marathon or half marathon.
- It is not permissible to sell or transfer entries. Anyone participating with another person’s number or timing tag will be disqualified, and both people will be banned from future Albany marathons.
- All fees are non-refundable. If you do decide to cancel, you cannot be reinstated into the Albany marathon. There are no refunds. In addition, those who cancel in the upcoming race and wish to enter next year’s race will need to reapply for entry and pay the entry fee again for next year’s race.
- If you cannot participate your entry fee will become a direct donation to the Willson Hospice House.
- Race number must be pinned to the FRONT of your shirt/singlet or race belt and must be visible for the duration of the course. The race will be monitored at several checkpoints, and we need to be able to see your number for our validation process.
- Unofficial wheeled vehicles (strollers, bikes, baby joggers, skates, skateboards, roller blades, etc.) and pets are not permitted on the course. Any runner who is accompanied by someone on/in an unofficial wheeled vehicle may be disqualified by the race director.
- The use of earphones, headphones, i-pods, mp3 players and similar devices is discouraged for safety reasons.
- SAG wagons will patrol the course and will offer rides to participants who choose not to continue. Anyone who boards a sag wagon will not be allowed to rejoin the race.
- Prize money recipients will be required to provide a Social Security number to race officials.
- There will be no duplication of awards (i.e. overall winners cannot win Masters category; overall and Masters winners cannot win age group awards)!
- The race director reserves the right to cancel or modify the marathon and/or half-marathon in consideration of extremely adverse weather conditions or other health or safety factors that pose an imminent threat to competitors and/or volunteers. In the unlikely event of cancellation, entrants who have picked up their race number will receive partial credit toward next year’s entry fee.
- A closely monitored luggage check area is provided for your convenience. Clearly marked items may be dropped off at the Start Area luggage cart and must be reclaimed at the Finish Line Area within ten minutes of the marathon close. Items left anywhere other than the designated luggage check area, whether they are marked or not, are left strictly at the runner’s own risk. The marathon committee, race directors, volunteers, etc. will not be responsible for any personal property discarded along the course, including the water stations.
The race director reserves the right to disqualify anyone who does not comply with these rules.
