Visit Albany Celebrates National Travel and Tourism Week, Highlighting Travel’s Essential Role
ALBANY, GA (May 1, 2026) — Visit Albany is proud to join destinations across the country in celebrating National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW), May 3–9, 2026, recognizing the travel industry’s vital contributions to the U.S. economy and local communities. This year’s celebration carries added significance as the nation prepares to host major global events that will bring increased attention and visitation to destinations nationwide.
“The World Cup is weeks away. America’s 250th birthday is right behind it. Tens of millions of visitors are coming, and the travel industry is what makes that possible,” said Geoff Freeman, President and CEO of the U.S. Travel Association. “National Travel and Tourism Week is our moment to ensure every policymaker, community leader, and American understands what is at stake and what this industry delivers. The numbers speak for themselves: $3 trillion, 15 million jobs, and a decade of global events approaching.”
Established in 1983, National Travel and Tourism Week highlights the essential role travel plays in driving economic growth, fostering connection, and enhancing quality of life. This year’s theme, “Postmarked: Essential,” emphasizes how travel leaves a lasting mark on communities across the country. The industry generates $3 trillion in economic output and supports 15 million jobs, accounting for approximately 2.4 percent of the nation’s GDP.
Here in Dougherty County, the travel industry remains a key economic driver, generating $323.7 million in total visitor spending in 2024, according to Symphony Tourism Economics. In recognition of NTTW, Visit Albany will host All Aboard Albany on May 7, 2026, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Albany Jet Center, 3905 Newton Road, Suite 111, Albany, Georgia. The event will bring together hotel partners, attractions, and community stakeholders to celebrate the collective efforts that support visitation and strengthen local engagement.
“We are proud to do our part alongside so many committed partners who help move Albany forward,” said Kasey L. Summerville, President and CEO of Visit Albany. “National Travel and Tourism Week gives us the opportunity to recognize that it takes all of us working together to create meaningful experiences for our visitors and to support a strong, connected community.”
